Week 1: The Myths of Enlightenment
What is enlightenment really? Who or what is awake? As we examine what we imagine “enlightenment”
will give us, we have the opportunity to tell the deepest truth about what we really want and what we are
willing to give for that.
Week 2: Call Off the Search
Week two focuses on the essential step into awakening—calling off the search for some object or event
to deliver fulfillment. In one simple, radical moment of stopping, it is possible to discover the truth of your
nature as that fulfillment being sought everywhere else.
Week 3: The Vehicle of Direct Experience
Misidentification is the root of unnecessary suffering. Gangaji offers the vehicle of direct experience to
penetrate the storyline of our lives into the experience of our being. When we are ready to tell the truth of
our direct experience, rather than continuing our story of suffering, we live freely and authentically.
Week 4: Recognizing the Strategies of Ego
Gangaji takes the group through an examination of the three basic movements of ego; the habits of mind
that when followed, betray our essential, awake nature.
Week 5: The Spin into Hell
Much of our time can be spent caught in overwhelming spirals of fear, anger and emotional hysteria.
This week we examine the nature of human emotion to discover what is revealed when we are willing to
face what we avoid. What would our lives be like if we stopped both denying and indulging the waves of
human emotion?
Week 6: The Alchemy of Surrender
The primal experience of letting go is meeting death. Whether it is our physical death or the death of who
we imagine ourselves to be, or the death of what we think our life circumstance should be, surrender brings
us home to ourselves. In an instant of surrender, we recognize the vast and uncontrollable love that is our
true nature.
Week 7: Wait and See
Often after a profound experience of awakening we can fall into the trap of spiritual materialism: seeking
more and better states of mind. This habit can pull us away from the simple truth of ourselves, bringing us
back into a pattern of unnecessary suffering. In this meeting, we explore one of the most essential teachings
Gangaji ever received from her beloved teacher, “Wait and see;” three words that can radically change
your life.
Week 8: Choose What Has Chosen You
Once we recognize our true inner nature, how do we remain true to that recognition? What does it mean to
be at peace in our daily lives? Here we examine the nature of being vigilant in ordinary human existence.

"The words themselves are charged with extraordinary aliveness and transformative power. This is because they come out of a living realization of truth, rather than the accumulated knowledge of the mind." From the foreword by Eckhart Tolle, author of "The Power of Now."
"Nakedness is a profound given. When Rumi speaks of the beautiful nakedness of the soul, this is what he refers to. Gangaji, too, with such grace, gently suggests that we remember and return to the deep being we already are, beneath all the clothes of our stories." Coleman Barks, author of Rumi, The Book of Love.
"Gangaji is clear and sharp like a diamond and her words cut through to the heart of the matter. I heartily recommend her as a teacher to seekers interested in inquiry into reality and themselves." Lama Surya Das, author of Letting Go of the Person You Used to Be. |
Born in Texas in 1942, Gangaji grew up in Mississippi. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1964, she married and had a daughter. In 1972, she moved to San Francisco where she began exploring deeper levels of her being. She took Bodhisattva vows, practiced Zen and Vipassana meditation, helped run a Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center, and had a career as an acupuncturist in the San Francisco Bay area.
Despite her successes, Gangaji continued to experience a deep and persistent longing for fulfillment. She pursued many paths to change her life including relationship, motherhood, political activism, career, and spiritual practice, but even the greatest of her successes ultimately came up short. In the wake of her disillusionment, she made a final prayer for true help. In 1990, the answer to her prayer came unexpectedly, taking her to India and to the meeting that would change everything. There on the banks of the river Ganga, she met Sri H.W.L. Poonja, also known as Papaji, who opened the floodgates of self-recognition. In this meeting, Gangaji’s personal story of suffering ended and the promise of a true life began to flower and unfold. It was then that Papaji gave Toni the name Gangaji and asked that she share with others what she had realized.
Today, Gangaji travels the world speaking to seekers from all walks of life. A teacher and author, she shares her direct experience of the essential message she received from Papaji and offers it to all who want to discover a true and lasting fulfillment.
Gangaji is the author of You Are THAT! Volumes I & II, Freedom & Resolve: The Living Edge of Surrender, and The Diamond in Your Pocket: Discovering Your True Radiance.
