The Alexander Technique | American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT)

The Alexander Technique

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique is an educational method used worldwide for over 100 years. By teaching how to change faulty postural habits, it enables improved mobility, posture, performance and alertness along with relief of chronic stiffness, tension and stress.
Why do people study the Alexander Technique?

People study the Technique for a variety of reasons. The most common is to relieve pain through learning better coordination of the musculoskeletal system.
Another reason people take lessons in the Alexander Technique is to enhance performance. Athletes, singers, dancers, and musicians use the Technique to improve breathing, vocal production, and speed and accuracy of movement.
The most far-reaching reason people study the Technique is to achieve greater conscious control of their reactions.
Most of us have many habitual patterns of tension, learned both consciously and unconsciously. These patterns can be unlearned, enabling the possibility of new choices in posture, movement and reaction. During lessons you'll develop awareness of habits that interfere with your natural coordination.  You'll learn how to undo these patterns and develop the ability to consciously redirect your whole self into an optimal state of being and functioning. Through direct experience you’ll learn how to go about your daily activities with increasingly greater ease and less effort.

On the top of my list of 2013 New Year resolutions is to better
educate myself on the health benefits of the little talked about but
essential, trace minerals, like our little buddy, Boron.

I feel like a moron for not knowing more about
boron.

(I've been looking for an excuse to use that catchy little phrase
for months. Strike 1 more thing off my 2013 list!)

Although boron is only found in trace amounts in vegetables, at
least one study showed that it plays a powerful role in reducing calcium
excretion.

In this issue, you're going to learn a half-dozen other amazing
health boosting benefits of boron.

“The best doctor gives the least medicines.”

  ~ Benjamin Franklin

Nothing
Boring About Boron.

The Littlest Bone Builder

That Does Much More

- Michael Dewey

Joint health, optimal hormones, inflammation, energy, libido, clean
kidneys, strong bones, etc...

Boron, a semi metal, (meaning it has similarities with metals and
non-metals) that is #5 on the periodic table, is not a well known
star mineral, but still plays a crucial supporting role in maintaining
optimal health.

You have gotten tiny amounts of boron your whole life in many foods
like almonds, apples, avocados, bananas, beans and more.

Boron is found commonly in soil and water, and is essential for
animals and humans.

But due to mass production farming techniques, boron (and
other minerals) have been drastically depleted from the foods we
eat.

Combine this drop with how we so often reach for minerally vacant
fast-food and processed foods, and it’s understandable that what you
get these days from your diet is just not enough - leading to potentially
dangerous deficiencies.

Boron Supports Metabolic Processes

Boron has the potential to
influence a number of metabolic processes
(hormones, blood plasma, vitamin D, bone maintenance, inflammation
and cognition/learning)
(1) and interestingly, it’s effect is even more
noticeable when other nutrients like cholecalciferol (vitamin D) and
magnesium are present.

Just as a tire without an axle is useless, the latest science
indicates that essential trace minerals need each other to perform their
duties.

Rats and chicks given boron have been shown to have increases in
bone strength. There is also a correlation with boron in regards to
improving arthritis, plasma lipid profiles, and brain function (1).

Add to that boron is thought to have a preventative effect for women
and lung cancer.

Cancer?

A ten year study in Houston Texas looked at 763 women with lung
cancer.
The conclusion stated “boron intake
was inversely associated with lung cancer in women, whereas
women who consumed low boron and did not use HRT were at substantial
increased odds.” (2)

True, “inversely associated” does not prove a connection, but “if it
looks and quacks like a duck - it’s likely a duck” then boron
should be taken very seriously for its potential benefits.

And because boron helps reduce inflammation and affects steroid hormone levels,
it is believed it helps prevent certain types of cancer.

Data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
(NHANES III) states “increased
dietary boron intake was associated with a decreased risk of
prostate cancer”(3)

Boron and Testosterone

And boron does even more: there’s a positive
connection with testosterone, which is something that should perk up the ears
of every man reading this.

A study done in 2010 at the University of Medical Sciences in
Iran found that boron increases male testosterone in as little as 7
days (4)

Testosterone is proven to increase muscle mass, sharpen memory and
concentration, libido, and improve energy levels, so boosting it
naturally and safely with the aid of boron should be considered a
“no brainer.”

Boron and Kidney Stones

Furthermore, according to The Journal of Alternative and
Complementary
Medicine “boron seems to have an
impact on (kidney) stone removal.”

Urinary calcium excretion is one of the determinants of kidney
stones, and tireless boron (in doses of 3mg per day) somehow reduces this,
leading to less excruciating stones. (5)

It is not known exactly how boron assists all the functions and
services it does for your body. What we do know about are the many
repercussions if you don’t get enough of it.

Unfortunately our common everyday diet does not provide ample boron
as it once did. Many health professionals feel there may even be a
boron deficiency epidemic.

Remarkably, despite boron’s proven importance in supporting human
health and building strong bones, many of the mass-marketed bone
health products on store shelves do not include any boron.

Aware of that, we made sure to include 1.5mgs of body-friendly
boron in each serving of AlgaeCal Plus...leaving no stone or bone unturned.

Iodine Rich Foods - List Of Foods High In Iodine

Iodine Rich Foods - List Of Foods High In Iodine

Benefits of Iodine
  • One of the most prominent benefits of iodine is that it influences the functioning of the thyroid gland, thereby increasing the production of the hormone. This increased production of thyroid hormone is directly proportional to the basic metabolic rate. It influences the heart rate, blood pressure, body weight and temperature and also helps in protein synthesis.
  • Less intake of iodine leads to loss in energy levels and the feeling of being lethargic. Iodine helps in optimum utilization of calories without allowing deposit of excessive fats, thereby raising the energy levels.
  • A healthy intake of iodine helps in maintaining shiny skin, teeth and hair. Lack of iodine in the body can not only cause hair fall, but also restrain hair growth.
  • Sufficient iodine intake is extremely essential to allow normal growth and maturity of reproductive organs. Iodine also determines proper movement and growth, along with speech and hearing, in babies.
  • Right iodine levels in body can curb the condition of fibrosis, turgidity and breast tenderness. It acts as a relief for fibrocystic diseases and is, hence, widely used in therapies.
  • Research shows that iodine has anti-cancer properties. It is believed that cancer cells tend to shrink, when administered with iodine.
  • Iodine is also believed to remove toxic elements from the body. Apart from biological toxins, chemicals such as fluoride, lead and mercury are flushed out, thereby improving the immune system of the body. It also prevents the proliferation of harmful bacteria in the stomach.
  • Did you know that the deficiency of iodine in the body causes thyroid and goiter disorders? As such, people with these diseases should have liberal amounts of food that contain iodine. It would work as a healing agent for the enlarged thyroid gland.
  • The presence of iodine in the body helps in ensuring the apoptosis or programmed cell death, which is essential in the formation of new organs as well as in the removal of malignant cells, like cancer cells or diseased cells.

Iodine is a mineral that is essential for the growth and development of an individual. It is mainly present in saline water and soil. In fact, the amount of iodine that we can obtain from plants is dependent on the extent of iodine present in the soil. The main source of iodine in the diet of an individual comprises of salt intake and consumption of seafood. The mineral is a major component of the thyroid hormones produced in the body, which are responsible for regulation of metabolic processes, such as growth and energy expenditure. Since thyroid gland does not have the capacity to store the required amount of iodine, it is necessary for a person to consume small amounts of iodine on a regular basis. Read on to explore a list of iodine-rich foods, along with the benefits of consuming the mineral.

8 Foods With Iodine | Natural Health & Organic Living Blog

8 Foods With Iodine | Natural Health & Organic Living Blog

8 Foods Rich in Iodine

Iodine Foods - Kelp
The thyroid gland synthesizes thyroid hormones and iodine is an essential trace mineral that is crucial for the thyroid to function properly. An adequate amount of iodine in your diet ensures the thyroid is able to manage metabolism, detoxification, growth and development.

Research has shown that a lack of dietary iodine may lead to enlargement of the thyroid gland, lethargy, fatigue, weakness of the immune system, slow metabolism, autism, weight gain and possibly even mental states such as anxiety and depression.
The good news is that there are many popular foods with iodine, all of which are easy to incorporate into your daily diet.
The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for iodine is 150 micrograms daily for everybody over the age of 14. The RDA for children ages 1-8 is 90/mcg every day, ages 9-13 is 120/mcg every day. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended that you get 290/mcg every day.
Learn About the Benefits of Iodine

1. Sea Vegetables

The ocean hosts the largest storehouse of iodine foods, including Kelp, Arame, Hiziki, Kombu, and Wakame. Kelp has the highest amount of iodine of any food on the planet and just one serving offers 4 times the daily minimum requirement. 1 tablespoon of Kelp contains about 2000/mcg of iodine, 1 tablespoon of Arame contains about 730/mcg of iodine, 1 tablespoon of Hiziki contains about 780/mcg of iodine, 1 one inch piece of Kombu contains about 1450/mcg of iodine, 1 tablespoon of Wakame contains about 80/mcg of iodine. I recommend sprinkling these into soups or salads.

2. Cranberries

This antioxidant rich fruit is another great source of iodine. About 4 ounces of cranberries contain approximately 400/mcg of iodine. I recommend buying fresh organic berries or juice. If you buy cranberry juice from the store, be aware of how much sugar it contains.

3. Organic Yogurt

Probiotic Foods - Yougurt
A natural probiotic, yogurt is an excellent iodine food you should add to your diet. One serving holds more than half of your daily needs. 1 cup contains approximately 90/mcg of iodine. Other than yogurt, here is a list of probiotic foods you should consider incorporating into your diet for added health benefits.

4. Organic Navy Beans

Many beans are a great food source of iodine and navy beans may top the list. Just 1/2 cup of these beans contain about 32/mcg of iodine. Beans aren’t just an iodine food, they are also incredibly high in fiber.
Need Enzymes? Here is my recommendation.

5. Organic Strawberries

This tasty red fruit packs up to 10% of your daily iodine needs in just a single serving. One cup of fresh strawberries has approximately 13/mcg of iodine. Try buying fresh, organic strawberries from your local farmer’s market, they do not disappoint!

6. Himalayan Crstal Salt

This form of salt, also known as gray salt, is an excellent source of naturally-occuring iodine. While many types of table salt are iodine-enriched, they are also stripped of all their natural health properties and are chemically processed. Just one gram of himalayan salt contains approximately 500/mcg of iodine.

7. Dairy Products

Milk and cheese are good sources of iodine, just one cup of milk holds around 55/mcg. To avoid many of the negative digestive effects of eating cow’s milk and cheese, I personally would recommend opting for raw organic goat’s milk and goat’s cheese; a healthier alternative for extracting iodine from dairy.

8. Potatoes

The common potato is an easy addition to most meals and is one of the richest sources of iodine in the vegetable kingdom. Leave the skin on and one medium-sized baked potato holds 60/mcg of iodine.

Iodine Supplements

If you’re not a fan of the iodine foods listed above, then you can always take an iodine supplement. There are many different types of iodine supplements on the market, so knowing the differences between each is vital. I recommend a transformative nano-colloidal detoxified nascent iodine supplement, which the body is quickly able to turn into its own effective mineral iodides for maximum absorption.

    Cancer Information

     LATEST CANCER INFORMATION
    from Johns Hopkins

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY …

    1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

    2. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

    3. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

    4. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including nutritional supplements will strengthen the immune system. Foundational supplements include a high potency multivitamin, essential fats, antioxidants and vitamin C, and green superfoods (containing chlorella, spirulina, and other greens like organic wheatgrass and barley grass powder).

    5. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

    6. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars, and damages healthy cells, tissues, and organs.

    7. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction, and vastly increase the chances that when the cancer comes back it will be far more aggressive.

    8. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

    9. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

    10. An effective way to battle cancer is to STARVE the cancer cells by not feeding it with foods it needs to multiple.

    What cancer cells feed on:

    a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note: Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with aspartame and it is highly toxic to the body. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a bleaching chemical added to make it white in color, as well as anti-caking agents. Better alternatives are Bragg's liquid aminos or Celtic sea salt.

    b. Dairy foods causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By reducing milk intake and substituting with milk alternatives (like homemade almond milk), cancer cells will be starved.

    c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. Any meats consumed should be grass fed and free range (or wild caught), in any event, so as to provide the cleanest food source possible.

    d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh salads and vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. If you don't already own a juicer, get one today!

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

    e. Avoid over-consuming coffee, tea, or chocolate, which contain caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water--best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic and when used for longer periods leaches minerals from the body, so avoid it (except for short-term cleansing to draw out toxins).

    11. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become petrified and leads to more toxic buildup. Increased fiber intake and use of intestinal rejuvenation formulas can help sweep the intestines free of undigested foods, impactions, and bowel pockets.

    12. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

    13. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-essence, Essiac, Olive leaf, mushroom extracts, antioxidants, multivitamins, minerals (including magnesium), vitamin D, essential fatty acids, etc.) and thereby enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E (and high Scoville-unit cayenne tinctures) are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

    14. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, lack of forgiveness, and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

    15. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells. In addition, nucleic acids (like those found in Rejuvenate! high-RNA super foods) help oxygenate the body and keep it in a state of high oxygenation when regularly consumed.
